Rainfall warning issued for northeast, east-central areas

Aug 7, 2025 | 4:09 PM

Much of the northeast is now under a rainfall warning.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued the warning Thursday afternoon, saying the region can expect 50 to 75 mm of rain in total.

A low-pressure system is due to make its way through the province starting on Friday, and the heaviest rain will fall on the northern edge of that system.

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue Friday and Saturday, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada, with the system expected to move on Sunday morning.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” the rainfall warning states. “Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy rainfall in combination with other weather factors, such as hail, wind and lightning will make outdoor activities unsafe.”

Local areas under the warning include Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin, Hudson Bay, Arborfield, Carrot River, Zenon Park, Bjorkdale, Beatty, Kinistino, St. Brieux, James Smith Cree Nation, Red Earth Cree Nation, and Greenwater Lake Provincial Park.
