Severe Thunderstorm and Possible Tornado

Tornado warning issued for the Battlefords and surrounding areas

Aug 7, 2025 | 6:12 PM

A tornado warning has been issued for parts of west-central Saskatchewan after Doppler radar detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado just northwest of Delmas.

The warning affects the following areas:

  • R.M. of Turtle River, including Edam and Vawn
  • R.M. of Meota, including Meota and The Battlefords Provincial Park

At approximately 5:24 p.m., Environment Canada reported that the storm was located about 10 kilometres northwest of Delmas and moving east at 10 kilometres per hour.

In addition to the potential for a tornado, the storm is also expected to bring hail up to the size of loonies and damaging straight-line wind gusts over 90 km/h.

Officials are urging residents in the storm’s path to take shelter immediately as this is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.

People are advised to seek shelter in a sturdy building, ideally in a basement or an interior room away from windows. Mobile homes, vehicles, tents, and trailers are not safe shelter options. If no shelter is available, lying flat in a low-lying area and covering your head is advised as a last resort.

For ongoing updates, residents are encouraged to monitor Environment Canada alerts. Severe weather reports can be submitted by email to SKstorm@ec.gc.ca, by calling 1-800-239-0484, or by posting on social media using #SKStorm.
