Construction is set to begin next week on a new splash pad in North Battleford’s Connaught Elementary School yard.

The $200,000 project, funded through a donation from the Rotary Club of the Battlefords, will be located at 108th Street and 8th Avenue. Work is scheduled to start in mid-August and continue until the end of September, weather permitting.

Mayor Kelli Hawtin said the location is ideal for families in the neighbourhood.

“This will be an excellent addition to an area of the city with many children living in the Connaught Elementary School area, and located just steps away from the school playground,” Hawtin said in a statement.

“Over the years, this park area has seen the highest attendance of families and community members at city-hosted community barbecues. I am certain this addition will be welcomed and well utilized.”

The project is a partnership between the City of North Battleford, the Rotary Club of the Battlefords, and the Living Sky School Division.

Other city parks with splash pads include Centennial Park at 18th Avenue and 104th Street, Kinsmen Park on 18th Avenue between 92nd Street and 96th Street, and Senator Herb Sparrow Park at 13th Avenue and 104th Street, behind the Boys and Girls Club of the Battlefords.
