UPDATE: Youth arrested after firearm discharged near Wesmor High School

UPDATE: Late Wednesday afternoon, police reported that a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman were struck by a projectile and received minor injuries during an incident that occurred outside of Wesmor Public High School.

Three suspects fled the scene after a firearm was discharged. Police called in a canine tracking unit and were able to recover a discarded firearm in a bush in the 1300 block of 18th St. W.

One male youth has been arrested, and police would like to hear from anyone that has any information on the incident.

Prince Albert Police are currently on scene at Wesmor Public High School in the West Flat neighbourhood.

Police were called at 10:20 am to a report of a gunshot outside of the school.

Sources told paNOW that a gun was discharged near the school in a location that students are known to gather. The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution, but was lifted around noon.

The incident is believed to be isolated. Sask Rivers School Division confirmed that parents have been notified.

Along with two police cars, the Forensic Unit is parked in the driveway and all nearby streets and alleys remain open.

Police will remain at the school while the investigation continues.
