Meadow Lake Home Hardware Building Centre won an award last week for Best Home Hardware Building Centre in the Western Region.

The award was presented at the Proud of my Home Achievement Awards and Celebration in Toronto. The awards ceremony recognized excellence among Home Hardware stores across Canada.

Owner Wayne Marsh said winning the award was huge for the store, as there was a lot of competition in the region.

“We’re pretty honoured that we were able to make number one in Western Canada, especially with Home Hardware being such an iconic brand across the country. There’s so many great stores across Western Canada, across nationally, to be recognized when you’re from small town Saskatchewan, that you’ve exceeded expectations and you’ve come up to a level that’s award worthy. So, it’s very much a big honour.”

Marsh said the nomination was a surprise but was thankful for the chance to be considered among the best Home Hardware Building Centres in Canada by other people within the company.

“Really, the nomination process, we really had no part in it. It was more of a selection that we found out afterwards that we were nominated between managers and other affiliates with Home Hardware that nominated us for this award,” Marsh said.

Meadow Lake Home Hardware Building Centre has been owned by the Marsh family since 1992, when it was purchased by Marsh’s parents Lois and Don. Marsh said that they have been crucial in helping the store reach award-winning status.

“As far as it goes for how well our store has done, I would say that part of it would be the leadership or the influence that my parents have had, because obviously they started the store and they’ve laid out a fantastic foundation that we continue to build on every day,” he said.

Marsh said staying involved in the community, providing quality service and creating a good work environment for over is what helped the store get recognized as the best in Western Canada.

“For us, it’s always been number one is the customer, just making sure that you’re serving them the way that you would want to be served. Being loyal to your staff and making sure that they’re looked after. And really we have a huge following in the community because we support the community each and every day. You can see it on a weekly basis with our charity barbecues, and it just goes on from there.”

“I believe that our community fully supports us and are really big fans of ours because of how much we do give to the community.”

With an award now in hand, Marsh and the rest of the team at Meadow Lake Home Hardware Building Centre hope to continue doing what has made them successful in the first place.
