St. Mary blanks Lloydminster for second win of season
The St. Mary Marauders were dominant on both sides of the ball on Friday night, shutting out the Lloydminster Barons 27-0 at Max Clunie Field.
The Marauders led 14-0 after the first quarter but could not find the endzone again until the fourth when touchdowns on back-to-back plays, highlighted by a 97-yard rushing TD from Caleb Eckert, sealed St. Mary’s second win of the season.
“I thought today we did a good job just being consistent,” said St. Mary Head Coach Curt Hundeby following the win. “I thought defensively, we’re doing a decent job out front with our D-line, our linebackers are getting better, and DBs are we’re improving, the whole group is improving. Offensively, [we] got to be a bit more consistent than we were today. We had some big stuff, but just wasn’t quite as consistent as I would have liked, but I think that’s stuff we got to work on over the week.”
The win is also St. Mary’s second in a row after downing North Battleford on the road last week, 31-14. For Lloydminster, it’s their second straight loss to start the season following a 31-6 loss to Martensville.
