North Battleford development on the rise as Saskatchewan leads the nation in growth

North Battleford continues to see an increase in construction projects and permits as Saskatchewan takes the lead in growth among the provinces.

By September of last year, 55 permits had been issued by the city. So far this year, there have been 78 permits granted for things like basement suites, new garages, new commercial buildings and alterations.

The Public and Intergovernmental Relations Coordinator for the City of North Battleford said there has not been a huge increase in the amount of visible construction, but the city has been receiving many inquiries.

“While we may not see those improvements transpiring right away, I can share that our planning and development office is very busy being responsive to the requests from developers that might be starting that process of building,” said Candace Toma.

In fact, over the last 18 months, the City of North Battleford has seen more development and zoning amendments than they have in the last decade, which suggests an increased interest to develop in the future.

New data released by Statistics Canada showed a 6.9 per cent increase in building construction investments in Saskatchewan in August compared to July, placing the province first in month-over-month growth.

Speaking earlier this week, Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding said these numbers tell a powerful story.

“Saskatchewan is growing and attracting more people and investment to our province. Whether it is new homes or commercial developments, this growth reflects the confidence people have in our province as a great place to live, work, and build a future,” said Kaeding.

The province also recorded a year-over-year increase of 14.9 per cent in investment in building construction from August 2024 to August 2025.

Saskatchewan continues to see significant economic growth. Statistics Canada’s latest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) numbers indicate that the province’s real GDP at basic prices reached an all-time high of $80.5 billion in 2024, increasing by $2.6 billion, or 3.4 per cent. This places Saskatchewan second in the nation for real GDP growth and above the national average of 1.6 per cent.
