After earning a 4-0 win on home ice to start the home and home series with the Swift Current Broncos, the Prince Albert Raiders went to Swift Current for their first road game in seven games. After Michal Orsulak earned the shutout Friday night, it was Dimitri Fortin’s turn to shut the door as the Raiders earned a 5-0 win.

The Raiders powerplay was 1/13 in their last four games, but the numbers didn’t show how good the Raiders were moving the puck and earning chances. At the 2:39 mark, found the back of the net when Justice Christensen and Riley Boychuk helped work the puck along the blueline until Daxon Rudolph got control in the middle, and he fired a wrist shot around a screen for his third goal of the season and his 50th career point.

At the 5:29 mark of the first, the Raiders scored again when Max Heise sent a breakout pass to Boychuk streaking up the right side. Boychuk entered the zone and fired, but his shot was blocked and came out to Alisher Sarkenov crashing the net who tapped it in for his second of the season.

After 1: Raiders 2 – 0 Broncos, shots 15-6

Halfway into the second period, the Raiders were back on the attack in the offensive zone for a long time. Aiden Oiring and Owen Corkish both got chances before they went for a change, and Evan Smith came off the bench hard to help Justice Christensen hold the puck in at the right point. Smith and Christensen both picked up assists when the puck came free into the middle of the blueline for Brayden Dube, and he fired a wrist shot around traffic for his fifth of the year.

Then at 16:13, the Raiders powerplay scored their second of the game on their third attempt. Oli Chenier on the powerplay managed to find an open Brayden Dube for a onetimer, and although Dube was stopped, Alisher Sarkenov’s nose for the net found the rebound to score his second of the night and third of the year.

After 2: Raiders 4 – 0 Broncos, shots 14-8 Raiders, 29-14 Raiders overall

The third period started with some 4-on-4 after a dustup between Riley Boychuk and Noah Potter at the end of the second period, but neither team could score. About halfway through the period the Broncos got their second powerplay of the night, but the Broncos were unable to score.

The Raiders got their fourth and final powerplay of the game in the final five minutes of the game, and they’d find paydirt again. This time Brayden Dube set up a onetimer for Alisher Sarkenov, and despite hammering the shot on goal, he was stopped. Jonah Sivertson parked in front was able to find the rebound and tuck it home for his fourth of the year at 17:27.

FINAL: Raiders 5 – 0 Broncos, shots 12-4 Raiders, 41-18 Raiders overall

With 18 saves on the night, Dimitri Fortin earned his first career shutout in the WHL. That brings him to a record of 4-0-1 on the season and a save percentage up to 0.902 on the year. Both he and Michal Orsulak have stopped 101 shots this season for identical 4-0-1 records, with Orsulak facing an extra two shots in his five games.

Riley Boychuk picked up two assists during the game, bringing him up to 2G-12A-14P, which continues his point streak to 11 games to start the season.

With the Raiders win and the Everett Silvertips suffering their first loss in regulation 7-0 at the hands of the Penticton Vees, the Raiders are now the only team in the WHL left without a loss in regulation. The Raiders are 9-0-2 on the season, while the Silvertips are 10-1-1.

The Raiders have the rest of the week off before they are back on home ice against the Calgary Hitmen on Halloween night.
