After travelling to more than 35 rodeos this summer, all-around cowboy Scott Sigfusson brought his season full circle in North Battleford — riding out of the 2025 Canadian Cowboy Association Finals as both High Point Champion and Steer Wrestling Champion.

The Tagasky, Sask., competitor capped his weekend by teaming up with Ashton Lehmann to tie for the Reece Enterprises Ltd. Team Roping win on Championship Sunday, stopping the clock at 5.1 seconds — a display of timing and control that had the crowd on its feet.

“It feels pretty good,” Sigfusson said. “I’ve worked all season, real hard practice, had a lot of family support and community support get behind me and it was a great time here in North Battleford.”

The four-day event took place from Oct. 23–26 at the Access Communications Centre (ACC).

He’s been competing since 2003, raised in the ranch and rodeo world where competition is a way of life.

“My older sisters rodeoed and stuff like that,” he said. “So, yeah, it’s just family, cowboy ranch world. And just what I do.”

When the chute opens, Sigfusson says the noise fades and instinct takes over.

“I just try to break down every run step by step, just kind of like every other sport where you just take it kind of as it is,” he said.

“Me and my horse are on a team against the steer, and I just try to match them and just do my job every day.”

The four-day CCA Finals — one of 46 sanctioned community rodeos across Western Canada — packed the ACC with more than 6,000 fans and 400 volunteers. From saddle bronc and barrel racing to bull riding and roping, the event turned North Battleford into rodeo country for one adrenaline-charged weekend.

Among the new champions was 19-year-old Blake Zieffle of Consort, Alta., who captured the Tie-Down Roping Championship and the year-end buckle, capping off a standout season on the CCA circuit.

He’s been competing for six years, and for him, it always comes down to one simple mindset — just do the job.

“Lots of stuff into it. Lots of stuff can go wrong,” he said. “Just do your job.”
