Mustangs drop third straight at the hands of Weyburn

Nov 27, 2025 | 10:26 AM

The Melfort Mustangs losing streak is now at three following Wednesday’s 4-2 loss to the Weyburn Red Wings at the Northern Lights Palace.

It was a rough start out of the gate for the Mustangs, as Weyburn had goals from Roan Burgess and Lucas Schmid less than five minutes into the game.

The Red Wings carried that 2-0 lead into the second, but Melfort cut the lead to one on Kaleb Binner’s second goal of the season. Melfort had a chance to tie the game with a penalty shot late in the second, but Tristin Ziola’s effort was denied by Preston Patenaude.

Callas Pierce made it a 3-1 Weyburn lead with less than seven minutes to go, with the Mustangs once again making it a one-goal game thanks to Zayden Sadlemyer’s ninth of the season with less than two minutes remaining.

Josh Sale of the Red Wings sealed the deal with an empty-net goal with 1:10 left in regulation.

Recent acquisitions Austin Osiowy and Kelan Simmonds were in the lineup for the Mustangs, who fall to 8-10-0-2 (W-L-OTL-SOL) on the season.

They will continue their home stand Friday night against the Nipawin Hawks.
