North Battleford switches from quarterly to monthly utility billing

Dec 1, 2025 | 11:09 AM

Property owners in North Battleford will see a switch from quarterly to monthly utility billing in the new year.

The billing change was proposed during the city’s 2026 budget discussions by Finance Director Margarita Pena. She advised the city’s utility department would convert from billing consumers for water, sewer and garbage collections every three months to monthly.

Pena commented on the change and said monthly billing will provide a consistent and manageable payment process.

“This change will simplify payment tracking, especially for those on a quarterly cycle who may lose track of their billing schedule and inadvertently miss payments,” she said.

The adjustment is possible due to the recent implementation of smart water meter systems by the city. Utility clerks can now get consumption data automatically, making it easier to sort out monthly usage for billing.

Pena added a $2 processing charge is being considered as an addition to bills sent by mail in 2026 to offset an increase in costs for the changed billing frequency. Customers are encouraged to sign up for e-billing to avoid added expense.
