Timberjaks holding steady as season eclipses halfway mark

Dec 2, 2025 | 2:25 PM

The Prince Albert Timberjaks are heading down the stretch before the holiday break.

The Jaks are currently 7-11-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL) on the Prairie Junior Hockey League (PJHL) season with seven games to go before Christmas, including a three-game homestand and a four-game road trip.

P.A. is 4-6-0-0 in their last 10 games and sit last in the Bob Dybvig (North) Division standings, where head coach and general manager Stef Corfmat said there’s still some work to do. However, following a couple of mid-season trades, he added some things are starting to click.

“It’s when we let down or have a brain fart, for five or 10 minutes in a game, and then all of a sudden, we’re down three. We just got to get them to buy into what we want to do and follow the systems and go from there, because we won’t be able to run and gun with the big teams in this league.”

The team has made three trades so far this season, including two separate trades with Martensville and one with the Saskatoon Quakers. In their transactions with the Chiefs, the Jaks first acquired forward Riedar Armstrong for forward Hudson Thiessen and then picked up forward Jase Borshneck for a player development fee (PDF). With the Quakers, P.A. got forward Luca Salmaso for a PDF.

He continued that the biggest addition to the team this season happened off the ice with the appointment of Tim Leonard to the coaching staff, replacing Dave Manson. Leonard was a longtime coach with the Prince Albert Mintos in U18 AAA and led the team to two National Championships in 2006 and 2007. He also won national bronze with the Tisdale Trojans in 2019 as their video coach.

“Tim’s a really good hockey guy. He’s really good with his X’s and O’s and systems, and with the three of us, it should be a pretty good group.”

Entering the stretch, the Jaks begin with their three-game homestand featuring contests against the Saskatoon Royals tonight (Dec.2), the Martensville Chiefs on Friday, and the league-best Regina Capitals on Saturday in the PJHL’s ‘Primetime in the Prairie’ matchup. That night, all Prince Albert Minor Hockey coaches and players will get free admission to the game and popcorn.

The team will then wrap up the 2025 portion of their schedule with a four-game road swing, making stops in Carrot River, Martensville, and two in Saskatoon against the Royals and Quakers.

Prince Albert kicks off December against the Royals tonight at the Northern Regional Rec. Centre for an 8 p.m. puck drop.
