Loehndorf winner snaps Wolverines skid

Pherson Loehndorf scored the go-ahead goal in the third period as the Warman Wolverines kissed their five-game losing skid goodbye with a 2-1 victory over the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Friday night at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex.

The Wolverines came into the final month of 2025 on the heels of a 6-1 loss to the Yorkton Terriers that back on Sunday that extended their run of defeats to five. Friday’s contest saw defenceman Jared Bigelow play his first Wolverines game since being acquired from the Flin Flon Bombers earlier in the week. Meanwhile, Griffin Wright made his 17th appearnce in goal this season with fellow netminder Taye Timmerman away with Team Canada West in preparation for the Junior A World Challenge next week.

Riley Rich-Holden got Warman on the board first for only the sixth time this season and first time since October 31 with his 9th goal of the campaign just over five minutes into the game. But Mattias De Zen evened things up when he found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season at 12:55 of the opening period.

With no scoring in the second period, it was off to the third where Loehndorf put home what proved to be the game winner at the 7:14 mark, giving the Wolverines their first victory since November 18. The Wolverines picked up their third win against UPL Division teams and now have a record of 4-2 when scoring the game’s first goal.

Griffin Wright stood tall for his thrd victory of the season, denying 28 of 29 shots, while Graham Brown stopped 29 of 31 shots in defeat. The Wolverines are fourth in the Nutrien Division at 7-18-2 and leapfrog the Ice Wolves for 11th place overall in the SJHL. The Ice Wolves fall to 6-16-2-1 and sit 4th in the UPL Division and last place overall.
