Pack the Patrol Unit event brings donations and a happy adoption

Battlefords’ fourth annual Pack the Patrol Unit event was a success for the Humane Society.

On Friday, $1,500 and more than 3,000 pounds of food and supplies were donated to the shelter. Donations were accepted at Walmart, No Frills, PetValu, and Canadian Tire by Community Safety Officers (CSO’s), volunteers with Citizens on Patrol and the Battlefords Humane Society.

A board member with the shelter said the organization is grateful for everyone who was involved.

“I know that we saw just as many, if not more people than we did last year. A big thank you to the CSOs and Citizens on Patrol because they did so much of the pre-planning for the event. It just wouldn’t happen without them,” said Lindsay Munroe from the Humane Society.

Adoptable dogs made special guest appearances during the day. One was the shelter’s longest resident, Maverick, who was adopted during the event.

“I know that the staff was hugely relieved to see Maverick leave. He’s been there for almost a year. It really puts morale up when we get to see those happy endings for them,” said Munroe.

The shelter has seen adoption applications for two other dogs since the event. However, Munroe expects even more to be submitted once families have more time to discuss.

“There was a lot of attention on our posts about the event and with people coming out to see us. So, we’re fairly confident in the next little while we’ll get some more applications,” Munroe said.

CSO’s have earmarked Dec. 4, 2026, for next year’s Pack the Patrol Unit event.

Pet Photos with Santa

On Dec. 14, furry friends and their families are invited to Battlefords Humane Society’s Pet Photos with Santa. The event will take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Discovery Co-op Mall in North Battleford. Participants can purchase a photo with their pets and Santa. The proceeds will go to the animal shelter.
