Mustangs close 2025 with shutout loss to Hawks

Dec 20, 2025 | 10:10 PM

The Melfort Mustangs played good enough to win Saturday night, at least through the first two periods.

Unfortunately, Melfort just couldn’t figure out how to capitalize on the power play, and once again couldn’t solve Gage Roberts, as they fell 5-0 to the Nipawin Hawks.

The Mustangs went 0 for 7 on the man-advantage, firing 43 shots on the Nipawin net, but were ultimately blanked for the second time at the Cage this season.

The Stangs played hard and heavy, just like they did in their 4-1 victory on Friday, but a different environment, and more importantly, a different opposing goalie seemed to make all the difference.

The Blue and Green have just scored four times in four games against Gage Roberts so far this year, as he’s gone a. perfect 71 for 71 in his home barn, and 137 for 141 overall.

Melfort will now be off for the holidays, returning to the ice on Jan. 2, when they head north to take on the Flin Flon Bombers.

Through the first 28 games (exactly half of their regular season), the Mustangs are 11-14-1-2.
