Tetarenko hat trick highlights late outburst as Bruins bounce Wolverines

Former Saskatoon Blade Lochlan Tetarenko recorded his first career SJHL hat trick as the Estevan Bruins scored nine unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the Warman Wolverines 9-1 on Friday night in Estevan.

The Wolverines and the Bruins squared off for the second time this season after Estevan won the first meeting 3-1 in Warman on December 6. Warman native Trey Markus skated in his first game with the Wolverines after being acquired from the Melfort Mustangs one day before the SJHL’s trade deadline.

The visitors took the initiative early on, with Oliver Nottingham extending the Wolverines’ opening goal streak to five games when he found the back of the net in the first period for his fifth of the season to put Warman up 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.

But after a scoreless middle frame, the Bruins began to turn the tides as Ewan Rennie netted his 24th of the season to knot the score at one. There was more where that came from as Tetarenko scored twice in a span of 20 seconds to make it 3-1 in favour of Estevan.

Drew Beasley added to Estevan’s growing lead with his fourth of the season and Caleb Potter connected with his first goal since being reassigned by the Swift Current Broncos to give the Bruins a 5-1 lead.

The onslaught continued as Tetarenko completed his hat trick at the 10:25 mark. Rennie followed that with his second goal of the game, then Jaren Ashbee tallied his first in the SJHL and Chase Holt found the back of the net for his ninth goal in as many games to complete the third-period outburst.

Warman has lost two straight following back-to-back wins and sits fourth in the Nutrien Division and 11th overall in the SJHL standings at 9-23-2 while Estevan remains in second place in the Bunge Division and fifth league-wide at 19-11-3.

The two teams go at it again on Saturday with puck drop set for 7 p.m. at Affinity Place in Estevan. Every Wolverines home and away game can be heard live on SaskNow.com.
