Nipawin Fire Department called to barn fire

Jan 20, 2026 | 11:20 AM

The Nipawin Fire Department’s busy start to 2026 continued on Monday.

They responded to a barn fire in the RM of Nipawin.

Fortunately, the landowners were able to get all cows and newborn calves out through the heavy smoke by the time fire crews arrived.

They had managed to get most of the flames out, but the fire got into the walls.

EMS was called, and one resident was transported as a precaution.

Firefighters cut open the wall to try to stop the smouldering fire.

Crews moved to the exterior and used a chainsaw to create more access holes for them to use hoses, before saturating the attic.

The NFD has already responded to 21 calls this year.
