Drew Williamson scored a pair of goals and Adam Konowalchuk picked up three points as the Battlefords North Stars earned their win at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex this season in a 8-5 victory over the Wolverines on Friday night.

The North Stars opened the scoring when Alessio Nardelli fired in his ninth goal of the season. The Wolverines responded moments later thanks to Cam Sarna’s seventh goal then got a Pherson Loehndorf power play marker to take a 2-1 lead.

Battlefords evened things up again when Finlay Klippenstein put one past Griffin Wright and Williamson followed up on the power play with his ninth goal of the season to put the North Stars back in front 3-2 after a seesaw opening frame.

The visitors picked up right where they left off in the second when Linken Fisher netted his 10th goal of the season to secure the first two-goal lead of the night for either team. But it didn’t last long as Kanyan Unger replied for Warman just 31 seconds later, trimming the deficit to one and extending his goal streak to four games.

A short time later, Williamson restored the two-goal edge on the man advantage with his second of the night, bringing the score to 5-3 in favour of Battlefords through 40 minutes of play.

The North Stars kept coming in the third as Raiden Zacharias gave etended the lead to three with his seventh goal in as many games. The Wolverines refused to go away though and began to mount a comeback with Kayden Yeaman and Carter Bergen scoring back-to-back goals in a span of 21 seconds to get Warman back within one at 6-5.

However, the Wolverines could not sustain the momentum as Cole Hines connected for his ninth goal before Konowalchuk hit the empty net to cap a wild night as the North Stars picked up their second win in their last three matchups against the Wolverines.

Warman has dropped four straight games losing skid and remains fourth in the Nutrien Division and 11th in the SJHL at 11-28-2-2. The North Stars have won two in a row and have a healthy lead atop the Nutrien Division while sitting second in the overall standings at 27-11-3-2.

The two teams will wrap up their home and home set on Saturday night at the Access Communications Centre in North Battleford with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Every Wolverines home and away game can be heard live on SaskNow.com.
