The Kindersley Klippers controlled play for three periods to put a five-game losing streak behind them with a crucial 5-1 win over the Warman Wolverines to split their home and home weekend series on Saturday in Warman.

The Wolverines pulled out a 4-3 victory with an outstanding performance one night earlier in Kindersley and were hoping to add on to their two-game winning streak, but the Klippers had other plans.

Wil Christian began the scoring for the Klippers in a back-and-forth first period when he put home his 11th goal of the season to put the visitors in front.

Kindersley would add onto the lead near the end of the period when Brody Sharpe got his second goal in as many games, putting the Klippers up 2-0 after one period with a 14-9 edge in shots.

The Klippers picked up right where they left off in the second when Rylan Wieler netted his 11th goal of the season and Caleb Therres picked up his first SJHL goal to give Kindersley a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Carter Bergen denied Mattias Radke’s shutout bid in the final frame as he scored on a breakaway pass from Pherson Loehndorf to put the Wolverines on the board, but Pryce Thiessen put the game away with a power play goal and Rylan Wieler drew an assist to cap off a three-point night and help snap the Klippers three-game road winless streak.

With the victory, Kindersley takes back second place on the Nutrien Division and ninth in the overall standings at 21-23-3-6, while the Wolverines are fourth in the Nutrien Division and 11th overall at 14-32-3-3.

The Wolverines next hit the road for a rare Tuesday night matchup with the Melville Millionaires with puck drop at 7 p.m. Every Wolverines home and away game can be heard live on SaskNow.Com.
