Matt Spencer-Dahl posted a 21-save shutout as the Melville Millionaires picked up a huge victory in their playoff push, ending a two game losing skid with a 4-0 win over the Warman Wolverines on Tuesday night in Melville.

The Mills opened the scoring when Wesley Golden fired in his fourth goal of the season to give the hosts a 1-0 lead that they would maintain through one period of play with the shots at 12-11 in their favour.

The Millionaires added to their lead in the second as Brayden Gourley netted his 11th goal of the season. Just 16 seconds later, Nathan Taylor scored his 7th of the campaign to make it 3-0 for the home side through 40 minutes of play.

Melville would put it away in the final frame when Hudson Binder extended his goal streak to three games with a power play marker to bring his team closer to clinching a playoff spot.

The Millionaires now sit seventh in the overall standings and third in the Bunge Division at 23-19-4-5 while the Wolverines are fourth in the Nutrien Division and 11th overall at 14-33-3-3.

Melville’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot is down to five after picking up a crucial two points in the standings.

Next up for the Wolverines is their second last road game of the season, which comes against the Nipawin Hawks in a Sunday afternoon matchup at the Centennial Arena with puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m. Every Wolverines home and away game can be heard live on SaskNow.com.
