Two deaths may be linked to Battlefords mystery beverage

RCMP have confirmed there is a possibility that two deaths in the Battlefords area are linked to an unknown beverage.

Earlier this week, RCMP and the Ministry of Health issued an alert out of concern for public safety based on information they received.

“We can say generally that Battlefords RCMP officers identified two sudden deaths that initially appeared to be potentially connected, and a report that there was a possibly hazardous beverage or liquid substance circulating in the area,” the RCMP said in an email to paNOW.

“Given the potential safety risk involved, the RCMP issued a warning to the public to exercise caution and not consume any unknown beverages or unknown liquid substances.”

While the RCMP do not have specific details or descriptors to provide of the liquid beverage/substance, they confirmed there is no connection with commercially available beverages.

The alert is in effect until March 11, 2026.

Along with police, the provincial coroner’s service is investigating and will release more information as it becomes available.
