Illegal tire fire near Goodsoil under investigation

Saskatchewan conservation officers are investigating after between 20 and 30 tires were burned in an old gravel pit east of Goodsoil, which is just south of Meadow Lake Provincial Park.

Officials said the tires were set ablaze on the evening of May 17, releasing toxic chemicals that can pose serious health and environmental risks. Burning tires can emit pollutants linked to respiratory illness, cancer and heavy metal poisoning, while also contaminating air, soil and water.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Turn in Poachers and Polluters (TIPP) line at 1-800-667-7561 or submit a report online through the Saskatchewan Turn in Poachers program.

Tips can be provided anonymously, and callers may be eligible for cash rewards through the SASKTIP rewards program.
