NDP says possible healthcare strike will have a big impact
When children across the province are returning to school, thousands of health care workers may be walking off the job and the Saskatchewan NDP are very worried about the ripple effects.
Standing outside Prince Albert’s Victoria Hospital on Wednesday, Labour Shadow Minister Nathaniel Teed said the chaos in Prince Albert healthcare will be made that much worse if 14,000 CUPE workers vote to go on strike in September.
“These staff have continued to work and provide care for their communities, even while a government refuses to acknowledge and address the serious wage and staffing pressures that they face”
The union’s members who work in areas like radiology, dietary services, care aids and custodial duties, have gone 3.5 years without a raise. Teed estimated as many 15 local facilities may be impacted by job action.
