Broncos spoil Wolverines comeback plans in SJHL opener

The Humboldt Broncos withstood a late rally by the Warman Wolverines to earn a 4-3 win on opening night of the 2026-27 season in Warman.

Oliver Phillips scored the winning goal with 1:44 remaining after the Wolverines erased a three-goal deficit. Phillips’ line with Connor Miller and Cody Farrell counted for three of Humboldt’s four goals in the contest.

The Broncos burst out to a 3-0 lead on first period markers by Farrell and Boston Schmidt and one by Miller in the second before Ezekiel Lambert began the comeback at the 14:03 mark of the second period with his first career SJHL goal.

Bennett Leibel and Brett Woodard scored twice in a 64-second span in the final frame with Woodard’s first SJHL goal levelling the score.
