Wolverines rebound to split opening weekend series with Broncos

The Warman Wolverines bounced back from an opening night loss on home ice to earn a 5-2 road win over the Humboldt Broncos at Elgar Petersen Arena on Saturday.

Five different players scored their first goal of the season with two recording their first in the SJHL as the Wolverines secured a split of their weekend set with the Broncos.

Warman’s penalty kill played a significant role in the victory, nullifying nine of ten Humboldt power plays anchored by a strong performance from goaltender Luke Brunen, who finished the night with 37 saves to record his first win as a Wolverine.

After killing off their first penalty of the night the visitors scored on the second as Owen Parks netted a shorthanded marker midway through the first period. Carter Bergen doubled the lead with a four-on-four goal in the final minute of the frame.
