Indigenous Services Canada sending final letter to FSIN over audit

Oct 8, 2026 | 9:53 AM

Speaking at Dakota Dunes on Wednesday, just outside Saskatoon, Minister of Indigenous Services Canada Mandy Gull-Masty gave a brief update on the forensic audit into the FSIN, which asked the organization to account for $34,251,566 in expenses.

The federal government has since instructed the FSIN to repay more than $28 million of that spending.

In August, during another visit to Saskatchewan, Gull-Masty said Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) had completed the audit and shared the outcome with the FSIN but was still awaiting a response at the time.

On Wednesday, Gull-Masty said the FSIN will receive a final letter from ISC “shortly.”

“I’m going to respect that that conversation moves forward between the two of us,” Gull-Masty told reporters at Dakota Dunes.

“I have been very clear that it is important to me that the accountability from regional leadership is demonstrated and is provided to all of the communities that are represented by FSIN,” she added.

Gull-Masty said ISC will “await response” after sending the final letter.

“It’s also my expectation that there is demonstrated the steps that were taken by FSIN to be sure that communities are informed,” Gull-Masty said.

CKOM has reached out to the FSIN for a response.
