The Nipawin Hawks erased a three-goal deficit in the thrd period but Owen Parks put home the game winner in overtime to give the Warman Wolverines a 4-3 victory on Saturday night in Warman.

After a scoreless opening period, Ashton Lee got things going for the Wolverines with his second power play goal in as many nights to extend Warman’s streak of scoring first to three games.

The Wolverines would add on to their lead later in the second period when Oliver Nottingham tallied his first goal of the season, then Ryan Black fired one home to make it 3-0 after 40 minutes of play.

The Hawks found their way onto the scoresheet in the third when Jack Janzen scored shorthanded and Carter Cole fired one in the net to trim the lead to one.

Nipawin then got even in the final minute of regulation time when Mason Lowther scored on a scramble near the net, and overtime was needed.

Owen Parks helped the Wolverines survive the comeback when he scored on a breakaway with 13.5 seconds left in overtime to win it for the home side.

“It’s pretty electric. It’s always a good feeling scoring and especially in OT and that type of game where we let up two quick ones. It’s really good to get that overtime goal and keep this horse on the road,” Parks said.

With the win, the Wolverines maintain their hold on top spot in the Nutrien Division at 6-2-2 while Nipawin sits third in the UPL Division at 4-4-1.

The Wolverines are back on the ice on Friday when they continue their homestand against the Melville Millionaires with puck drop at 7 p.m. Catch every Wolverines game live on SaskNow.com.
