The Warman Wolverines pulled off another dramatic victory with a shootout winner by Sawyer Scheidt in a 4-3 defeat of the Melville Millionaires in Warman on Friday.

The Wolverines opened the scoring for a fourth straight game as Ben Morton fired in his first SJHL goal on the power play to make it 1-0 Wolverines after one period.

The Millionaires would strike the scoreboard for the first time in the second period with the only goal of the frame when Leo Jewitt tallied his second of the season.

The goals would come flying in the third period as Trey Markus fired in his sixth of the season for Warman and Cole Brown tallied his third career goal for Melville.

Kanyan Unger then found the back of the net with his first of the season to put the Wolverines back in front but Parker Salisbury evened the score once again for the Millionaires, sending the game to overtime.

After a scoreless five minutes of three-on-three, a shootout was required and Sawyer Scheidt fired home the game winner in the the third round to give the Wolverines their first shootout win of the season.

The Warman native was excited to lift his hometown team to the victory.

“I came down the left side and just had a move in my mind and took the shot and then it went in, so it was pretty cool,” Scheidt said.

Wolverines head coach and general manager Brett Pilkington was happy about the outcome but wants to see some improvements for the team’s next game on Saturday.

“We got another two points, we’re pretty happy about that, but there’s some areas of our game in the 60-minute or 65-minute part that we need to clean up. So we’ll enjoy the two points for right now, and get after the video in the morning and learn so that we’re ready” Pilkington said.

The Wolverines maintain their hold on top spot in the Nutrien Division at 7-2-2 while the Millionaires occupy second place in the Bunge Division at 5-4-1.

The Wolverines continue their homestead on Saturday against the division rival Battlefords North Stars with puck drop at 7:30 p.m. at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex. Catch every Wolverines home and away game live on SaskNow.com.
