The Warman Wolverines enjoyed a scary good second period that helped them extend their winning streak to six games with a 7-2 victory over the La Ronge Ice Wolves in a Halloween matinee on Saturday in Warman.

The Ice Wolves gave the Wolverines an early scare when Aiden Across-The-Mountain fired in his first career SJHL goal to make it 1-0 for the visitors. Rory Dewar would go on to add another goal for La Ronge with his first of the season to extend the lead to two.

The Wolverines would find their place on the scoreboard when Sawyer Scheidt recorded his first career multi-goal game with two goals in 57 seconds to level the game after 20 minutes of play.

The Wolverines would go on to take the lead when Ben Morton scored on the power play just over a minute into the second period. Kanyan Unger followed up with his first goal of the season and Trey Markus added his third in as many games to extend the advantage to 5-2 heading to the third.

It stayed that way until the late stages of the final frame, when Morton buried his second of the game and Peyton Allard tallied his fifth of the season just 12 seconds later to cap off back-to-back Halloween wins for the Wolverines.

Evan Hutcheon denied 19 of 21 shots faced to earn his third win in three starts this season.

The Wolverines continue to sit atop the Nutrien Division and the overall standings at 11-2-2. The Ice Wolves, who have suffered four straight losses, occupy the SJHL basement at 2-12 on the season.

The Wolverines next hit the road for a Tuesday night showdown in Melville against the Millionaires with puck drop at 7 p.m. at the CN Community Centre. Listen to every Wolverines home and away game live on SaskNow.com.
