They admitted to killing Rob Vicente so they could steal his car stereo.

Darak More and Devin Schmit will be behind bars for 15 and 20 years after pleading guilty to second degree murder Friday.

For Vicente’s family who spoke outside court on Friday the sentence is not enough justice for the men who stole their son’s life.

The shocking details of the murder sent the small community of Davidson reeling, and the news of the sentence for a lesser charge of second degree murder prompted one woman to call in to John Gormley Live on Monday morning.

“If more people went through something like this they’d realize that we can’t just put these people in jail and forget about them,” Megan said, she did not give her last name but said she knew Rob through friends.

She says knowing the men who killed them could be free in 20 years means the family and some people in the community will never truly have closure.

“People just say it’s over and we’ve got justice but it’s not done for anybody here, it’s just terrible,” she said.

Outside court on Friday, Vicente’s mother Pam told reporters she felt a life sentence should actually mean life in jail, and not a chance at parole in 15 or 20 years.

On the phone to John Gormley, caller Megan agreed, saying she wished they could be locked up with the key thrown away.

“There is no redeeming them, they shot somebody while he was sleeping, they killed him for a stereo while he was sleeping,” Megan said.
