A popular destination in Meadow Lake Provincial Park is receiving over $530,000 worth of upgrades to its sewage disposal facility.

Renovations at Kimball Lake Camp will include an expansion to the existing lagoon cells, as well as the addition of a synthetic liner to the primary and secondary cells to ward against seepage. The project will also include enhancements to the park’s wastewater conveyance system and will install a sewage disposal station.

Byron Davis, the executive director of park infrastructure and capital planning with the facilities branch of the Department Parks Culture and Recreation, said these enhancements have been in the works for the last couple of years.

“We wanted to make sure we were in compliance with the regulatory requirements for sewage lagoons,” he said. “We’re upgrading the systems there to meet our visitor needs.”

As one of the busier campgrounds in the Meadow Lake Provincial Park, Davis said the capital improvements at Kimball also included the recent expansion of electrical service, the upgrading of some existing electrical campsite, as well as the addition of some full-service sites.

He said the upgrades will start in early September, set to be completed by late fall. Kimball Lake will close on Monday, Sept. 4.

“Things will be in place for our park visitors for the next camping season,” he said. “We’re undertaking these improvements in the off-season so as to not interfere with the heavy camping season.”

The Kimball Lake enhancement projects are part of a province-wide capital improvement for all provincial parks under an annual plan from the Government of Saskatchewan.
