Three men involved in a house fire that killed two men on the Ahtahkakoop First Nation will all face jail time.

In November of 2011 three Ahtahkakoop men were charged with second degree murder after fleeing from a burning home.

Dominic Chase Ahenakew pled guilty to Robbery While Armed. He was sentenced with two years in jail.

Kimmy Randall Bear, who was involved in a two-hour standoff with police after they found him in a home not far from where the fire happened, was charged with two counts of manslaughter and arson. He will face 15 years in prison with no parole for seven years.

Carl Anthony Albert, the last one to be arrested will face two counts of manslaughter as well, along with arson. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison with no chance of parole for seven years.

The bodies of William Ahenakew and Trez Sparvier-Scott were discovered after a nearby neighbour called police warning them that two men were injured in a fire.

When officials arrived on scene the house was already in flames and the victims could not be recovered until after the fire had been put out.

A young girl who had been in the house at the time of the fire was fortunately rescued by the brother of one of the victims and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Families of the victims said the occurrence was gang and drug related.
