A steal of two in the seventh end blew open a close game and helped the Robyn Silvernagle rink open up this weekend’s Canad Inns Women’s Curling Classic in Portage la Prairie on a wining note.

The Silvernagle rink defeated Julie Tippin of Woodstock Ontario 7-3 in this morning’s draw.

The Twin Rivers Curling rink consisting of North Battleford’s Silvernagle (skip) Jolene Campbell (mate) of Regina, Dayna Demers (second) of Meadow Lake and Prince Albert’s Kara Thevenot (lead) opened the curling season with back to back quarter-final appearances at the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Challenge in Regina and at the Colonial Squares Classic in Saskatoon. However at the Prestige Hotels and Resorts Classic in Vernon B.C. the foursome lost four of five games and failed to make the playoff round.

“Vernon was not a good weekend for us,” said Silvernagle who said each member of the team was ill for the entire tournament. “We don’t want to use us being sick as an excuse but it was a factor plus we just didn’t curl well at all.”
