As a part of a move to e-commerce, the industrial supply store Acklands-Grainger is closing 54 branches in 2018, including one in Meadow Lake.

The branch originally opened in 1984, and will close as of March 2, 2018, affecting four staff members.

In a statement from the company’s communications manager Lori Wiggins, the company will continue to serve customers through regional sales representatives and will offer support to the aforementioned employees.

“The company is treating those affected with care and compassion,” she said. “We will be offering team members assistance transitioning to new roles outside the company.”

Dave Lagoner, vice-president and general manager of Acklands Grainger said the business is trying to stay in line with evolving customer preference.

“We have invested heavily in e-commerce and direct-to-customer shipping, all with an aim of serving customers the way they want to be served,” he said. “With these investments, we are able to provide the same level of service without a storefront in certain communities.”

Acklands customers will be served by five distribution centres across the country.
