Local golfers weigh in on Woods’ Masters win

Woods’ return to the top of the ranks is being welcomed by many as he has been credited with helping to grow the game on a world level.

Danny Klughart, who hails from P.A. and serves on Golf Saskatchewan’s board of directors told paNOW Woods getting back on top could be good for the game locally.

“I’d say so. He’s done so much for the game of golf in the past, he kind of made it what it is today. I know back 20 years ago even the PGA Tour players were saying the only reason they play for millions of dollars every week is because of Tiger,” he said.

Klughart was himself a competitive golfer and explained when he was coming up, Woods was a golfer that he looked up to because he was such a successful player.

“He was so good and just so dominant and won so many tournaments so much,” he said. “When he’s charging, the crowd’s roaring, I mean those guys get a little intimidated and they were even saying that in their press conferences after the rounds.”

For Noah Parent, a junior golfer in P.A. having the chance to see Woods return to form is appreciated.

“Everyone says he’s the best golfer ever with 80 some wins and I haven’t really seen it and now that he’s making his comeback I hope I see more of it,” he said.

Parent, who has been competing for around seven years, is looking to take his game to the amateur tour after he graduates. He said Woods sets himself apart from other golfers.

“His shots that he’s able to pull off when he’s way out off the coarse is just unreal,” he said.

Looking forward, Parent said if Woods is able to keep his game at a high level it is ultimately going to be a good thing for the sport.

“I think it’s going to draw back a lot fans that used to really like Tiger, but really stepped away once he went away with injury, so it’s going to make the fan base a lot bigger I believe,” he said.
