La Ronge councillors want to freeze their own remuneration rates
La Ronge councillors are proposing a freeze to their own remuneration rates.
That’s according to a public notice issued earlier this week to give residents a chance to respond to the changes by either submitting a written statement or by attending the next regular council meeting to speak in person. Any written material or requests to speak must be received at the town office before 4 p.m. on April 19. The current remuneration rates are $24,935 per year for the mayor, $13,233 for the deputy-mayor and $9,733 for councillors.
“We don’t have the same policy in place for our staff, and what’s been pointed out is what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander,” Mayor Ron Woytowich said. “We will remove the council’s automatic raise and make it a level playing field so everybody is the same.”
