Close call for resident whose house was on fire

If two Good Samaritans hadn’t alerted him to it early on, Dave Bunnell’s house might have burned down last weekend.

Bunnell was at home alone at his 91 Street home when the fire started around 3 p.m. Saturday.

He had just finished feeding his cat and dog at the time.

When Bunnell went outside to the back of his house he saw the exterior siding and a wooden planter box were on fire.

He quickly ran to grab a bucket of water and threw it on the fire to help put it out. At the same time the woman who alerted him of the fire called 911.

“I don’t know who they were but I wish they would come forward so I could thank them,” Bunnell said with tears in his eyes talking to battlefordsNOW Monday. “They saved the house. If it wasn’t for their quick response and quick actions to notify me, it could have been far worse.”

He said the fire department put out the remaining flames when they arrived shortly.

“They had it out in a matter of minutes,” Bunnell said. “They did an excellent job. They were very thorough.”

Deputy fire chief Lindsay Holm and his team of firefighters attended the blaze and doused the remaining flames to extinguish the fire.
