Raiders take off for Memorial Cup Championship in Halifax

Not even pouring rain could slow down the wave of excitement washing through Prince Albert.

Well over a hundred hockey fans showed up at the Art Hauser Centre Wednesday morning, as the Raiders team officially left for Halifax and the Memorial Cup. Elaine Iskra told paNOW she did not mind the rain and loved the feeling of the comradery

“I would not have missed this for the world,” she said. “I watched the film [of that game winning goal] so many times, I cannot get enough of it.”

David Culbert was also there sporting his Raiders hat and jersey, and gripping a warm cup of coffee. Much like Iskra, he said he felt compelled to come down and show the team his support.

“This is the Raiders and it’s taken 34 years to win the championship. You see a live Game 7 and there’s nothing better than that,” he said.

Danielle Mohr, the billet mom for Noah Gregor and Max Martin, wanted to show the boys her support.

“This is quite the experience for us and we need to make sure they are ready to go for their game,” she said.

The team bus was escorted from the parking lot by police, ambulance, the fire department and even a cement truck. The Raiders play their first game Friday night.
