Nipawin pool opening date postponed

Nipawin residents will have to wait a little while longer before they break in the town’s pool with cannon-balls and splashes.

The Pool at Central Park’s opening day was scheduled for May 21, but it’s been postponed due to ongoing construction.

Barry Elliott, Nipawin’s chief administrative officer, told northeastNOW that some sections of the pool renovations are finished, but some parts require other work to be completed before they can be restored to working order.

“The framing has certainly been done for quite some time,” Elliott said. “The interior finishes are being worked on now, as well as some of the mechanical and electrical. Often, these elements of the individual disciplines must wait until certain pieces of another discipline are done, so they’re coordinating themselves very well to get all this finished.

“We are very close. I was touring the building yesterday and it’s been very well constructed. This is going to serve this community and our guests and visitors very well,” he said.

In response to the delay, the Town of Nipawin has changed the swimming lesson registration date to Thursday, June 6. The first session of swimming lessons up to June 14 have been cancelled.

The early bird family season pass rate will now be offered throughout the entire swimming season and will be available once the pool opens.

Elliott said he’s expecting more clarity about the pool’s opening sometime this week and the community will be informed as soon as he speaks to council.
