KTF Properties co-owner states fence issue ‘should have never gotten this far’

La Ronge Community Planner Abby Besharah wants the public to know there is no intent to restrict public access to the lake with the partial closing of Tremblay Street.

The matter was talked about at length during a regular town council meeting Wednesday, when representatives from Carlson Fish Products brought up concerns about council’s plan to enact a bylaw to close the road. Coun. Jordan McPhail stated the bylaw had to be made so KTF Properties could keep a fence which was built on public land without a permit. The Carlson representatives wanted assurance they would be able to use the lakeshore as their family has for more than 60 years.

“There is zero intent to restrict any access down there,” Besharah said. “It will not look any different after this happens. The town is not developing the roadway itself.”

Bescharah stated at Wednesday’s meeting it was decided town staff would do more consultation with KTF Properties and Carlson Fish Products about how the land will be zoned in the future. She added sections of it will likely be zoned as recreational and park land, but there are other options. Bescharah also mentioned there are no plans to sell any of the land.

larongeNOW reached out to KTF Properties for a comment on the matter and received a written statement by company co-owner Tracy Fiske. She wrote although she is an owner of KTF Properties, her business partner has been moving forward on the project without her consultation or input. She recommended larongeNOW contact Kelly Fiske on the issue.

“Although having some security is important, I believe the proper procedures should have been followed with KTF Properties submitting permits and following town bylaws, and I believe council should have enforced the bylaws they have in place,” Tracy Fiske wrote. “This situation, in my opinion, should have never gotten this far.”

larongeNOW reached out the Kelly Fiske, but was unable to interview him before deadline.
