June is Recreation and Parks month in the City of Melfort and they want residents to get out and enjoy what Melfort has to offer.

To kick off the month, the city is holding an open house on Wednesday, June 5 at the Spruce Haven Recreation Area where people can see what Melfort boasts when it comes to recreation. Part of the open house includes Propoganda, a skateboard group, to demonstrate skateboard tips and tricks. Pool Manager Shannon Marshall said there will be plenty more going on as well.

“We also have announcements and presentations for Spruce Haven park starting at 6:30 p.m.,” Marshall told northeastNOW. “We are encouraging everybody to come out and see what the Spruce Haven Recreation Area will look like in the near future.”

A barbecue will also be held at the Open House.

“We want to encourage everybody to check out all the recreation activities that Melfort has to offer,” Marshall said. “If you haven’t tried something, get out there and try it. Whether it’s disc golf, tennis courts, basketball courts, pickleball courts, skate park, pool, baseball diamonds, walking trails, we have lots to offer.”

Spruce Haven Recreation Area is set to boast a splash park, new playground, and soccer pitches, on top of the skate park that opened in the summer of 2018.
