It’ll be a trip back to the 1950s next Friday in Melfort.

The Back to the 50s sock hop cabaret will take place in the Melfort curling rink following the 30th annual Melfort Show and Shine.

Director of Development, Planning, and Community Relations, Brent Lutz said the funds raised at the events will go towards Historic Post Office rehabilitation project.

A new project is underway at the building according to Lutz.

“We are getting started on an art exhibit by local artists that will include the donor wall for people that have contributed towards the rehabilitation of the building,” Lutz said.

The mural will include pieces painted by community members through workshops held at the building over the last two weeks. The full project is expected to be completed by the end of October.

“We are hoping to unveil that in early November which is the anniversary of the building,” Lutz said. “We will have a special event and bring the community in to see that installation.”

For the Show and Shine, cars are set to start lining up on Main Street at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the cabaret to follow afterward.

For the cabaret, tables of eight can be purchased. Live music will be performed by the Bromantics, a six-piece band that performs hits from the 50s and 60s. VIP tables are available for purchase that includes table hops and A&W burgers.

“To be a VIP all you have to do is book a table in advance. You don’t have to be somebody ‘very important’ but you will be that night,” Lutz said.

Tickets can be purchased through the Kerry Vickar Centre box office or at Melfort City Hall.
