UPDATED:

A motorist was taken to hospital Monday morning after hitting a tree in the downtown.

The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. on 12th Street E. near the library.

The vehicle drove over a sign post before hitting the tree on the sidewalk with enough force to activate the air bag. It was not immediately known if there were any pedestrians on the sidewalk at the time.

Various parts from the front of the vehicle were strewn across the lawn area.

Parkland Ambulance said the driver suffered minor injuries.

Traffic was re-routed to avoid the area but that block was later re-opened.

Prince Albert Police Service told paNOW the driver was inexperienced which lead to the cause of the accident, and the driver was sober.
