The shortlist for the 26th Saskatchewan Book Awards was announced in Regina and Saskatoon at each city’s public library.

Harold Johnson’s latest book, Clifford is shortlisted for two Saskatchewan Book Awards this year, including the University of Saskatchewan Non-Fiction Award and the Rasmussen, Rasmussen and Charowsky Indigenous Peoples’ Writing Award.

Clifford tells the story of Harold’s brother and family, and combines memory, fiction, and fantasy. Harold is the author of five novels and three works of non-fiction, including Clifford, and he has previously won two Saskatchewan Book Awards.

“We are very excited about this year’s shortlist,” says Executive Director Courtney Bates-Hardy. “It is a wonderful example of the incredible books that are being written and published right here in Saskatchewan.”

SBA was formed in 1993 and remains the only provincially-focused book awards program in Saskatchewan. It is a principal ambassador for the province’s literary community, with a nationally recognized reputation for celebrating artistic excellence. The 14 award categories offered this year are diverse, representative of Saskatchewan’s literary production, and responsive to emerging areas of interest. Award winners are determined through a selective jury process.

Award winners will be announced at the 26th Saskatchewan Book Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina. The ceremony will be hosted by Victor Sawa, the renowned music conductor and a self-described bookworm.

The event will also feature Terrance Littletent, who will share his incredible hoop dancing with the audience.
