SideQuest app to assist in promoting northeast snowmobile trails

An app-based snowmobile contest is coming to the northeast region for the first time.

Twelve communities and NewSask Community Futures collaborated for the past three years to promote the trails with a new partner joining in the initiative for 2019.

“It’s a bit like geocaching or playing Pokemon GO where players can visit different locations and once they have completed a quest they can win rewards,” Marketing Consultant Mike Klein said. “There are three different quests set up within the region.”

Community Futures NewSask Manager Judy Childs said this initiative is important for the promotion of the trails and will also have an economic impact for the area.

“Its brought communities together to work together on a common goal of promoting the regions snowmobile network,” Childs said.

Prizes in the contest include free gas, helmets, and hotel stays. Smaller prizes come in the form of free coffees, NewSask swag bags and much more.

Participating communities include Melfort, Tisdale, Hudson Bay, Carrot River, Porcupine Plain, Arborfield, Aylsham, Nipawin, Zenon Park, St. Brieux, Weekes, and Kelvington.

“It’s really about getting people out to visit the trails and visit the region and so we thought it was a really good mix of the two,” Klein said.
