Prince Albert Kinsmen Club continues pancake tradition

Many people in Prince Albert came out to support the local Kinsmen Club as the organization raised money for the provincial Telemiracle fundraiser.

Humpty’s Family Restaurant hosted the annual event, where for $5 people could get a pancake breakfast for themselves.

“The owner here donates all of the funds that go from the breakfast to Telemiracle each year,” said Prince Albert Kinsmen Club Vice-President Jonathan Fraser.

Along with the funds brought in from the breakfast, members of the club were also accepting donations. Fraser was not able to provide a specific amount in terms of how much was raised, but said they were on par with previous years.

“We’re over $2,000 for the day,” he said.

While there were a number of people who came in and sat down to eat breakfast, there were also people who dropped by and got their order to go. Fraser said this was nice to see, as it shows people making the effort to come support the Kinsmen club and its efforts.

“They still care about community, they still want to help out Kinsmen and Telemiracle and it just shows community pride in that,” he said.

When looking at why the breakfast has continued to be successfu,l given that it has been going for over 40 years, Fraser gives the credit to the work Telemiracle does all over the province.

“It’s a community and provincial passion … which just garners that passion for people to give money,” he said.

The Prince Albert Kinsmen Club’s support for the annual telethon does not end with the breakfast, as seven members of the club will be heading down to Saskatoon to actively take part in fund raising.

“We’re going to be on shift from midnignt until six and from noon until close … so if you watch it you may see us on the floor,” said Fraser.

Looking towards the weekend, Fraser said he was optimistic about how much the telethon will be able raise this year. Last year over $7 million was raised to support people from all across Saskatchewan.

“I believe it’s going to be a massive year again each year we’re growing in dollar donations,” he said.
