People in the northwest stepped up to ring those phones for the province’s favourite annual telethon.

Telemiracle 43 in Meadow Lake wrapped up Sunday at the Civic Centre after raising $32,451 over the course of the weekend.

In Saskatoon, the provincial rendition at TCU Place brought in $5,619,214. The total fell short of last year’s record of $7,151,256.

All money raised in the telethon goes towards the Kinsmen Telemiracle foundation, which provides special needs equipment, access to medical assistance and support to people in Saskatchewan.

The first telethon in 1977 raised more than $1 million and then passed the $2 million mark for the first time in 1983.
