Nipawin finalizes another portion of pool project

With snow melting as a sign that swim season is coming, the Town of Nipawin selected the next contractor to work on a portion of the pool project.

Council went with the ACS Contracting Ltd’s bid of just over $9,100 for installation of the Pool at Central Park’s interior concrete slabs, which was nearly $6,000 and $12,000 cheaper than True Timber Construction and Concrete King’s bids respectively.

Installation of concrete slabs is one of multiple parts of the pool project council has had to decide on since November, and Barry Elliott, Nipawin’s chief administrative officer, said he appreciates how councillors keep local contractors top of mind.

“For the most part we’ve been able to work with local contractors,” Elliott told northeastNOW. “The pool committee certainly did an incredible amount of work getting their house in order to get this project moving forward.”

ACS Contracting was also awarded the pool’s framing contractor bid for nearly $74,000 during the Feb. 11 Nipawin council meeting, while Pineland Co-op received the Roof Truss Package for nearly $7,300 plus GST in November.

Elliott said renovations for the pool are expected to be complete by the start of swimming season.

“At this point, I know there have been a couple of small delays in terms of getting a number of the elements together, but there’s no reason for us to be concerned at this point,” Elliott said. “We’re very diligent in moving it forward and we just need to get the next phase done.”
