The man who owns a million-dollar home that went up in flames in the Cathedral Bluffs development north of Saskatoon believes the house was struck by lightning in the middle of the night, according to the Saskatoon Fire Department.

Battalion Chief David Nahachewsky said the homeowner actually lives across the street from the empty home in Corman Park, which he had been trying to sell.

“After the thunder cracked, he noticed his garage door was open. After coming towards the home, he saw a flame, and that’s why he suspects it was a lightning strike,” he said.

According to Nahachewsky, it’s believed the homeowner suffered minor burns while retrieving some vehicles from the garage.
