Residents welcome to register for Crushers Draft Hockey Tournament
All residents of the tri-communities with at least basic on-ice skills are welcome to compete in the upcoming Crushers Draft Hockey Tournament.
That’s according to event organizer Brendon Zarazun, who stated the Crushers Hockey League have been hosting the tournament since 2015. When it first began, he noted there were only 35 participants but as of 2018, the number has grown to 67. The tournament is also only open to adults and there’s a $50 fee to sign up after Friday.
“One of the reasons I think it is doing well is because we try promote it as an anyone can play type of event,” Zarazun said. “If you have never played organized hockey, and you want to experience the fun and the energy of the tournament atmosphere while kind of removing the competition from it, this is the event we promote.”
The event started as a way for teams in the Crushers Hockey League to have the opportunity to mix teams and play alongside others who they normally would play against. Since 2015, the tournament has grown to a size where they are now actively seeking sponsorships, which paid for new jerseys that will be worn for the first time this year.
